Can cape breton become one of the most creative places on earth?

Absolutely!

It is Cape Breton’s unparalleled “spirit of invention” and creativity that has built and sustained this place and the people who have called it home for thousands of years.

However, the island’s recent past has tested this heritage of ingenuity. Faced with various industries collapsing over the past several decades, Cape Breton, like much of Atlantic Canada, has been gripped by high unemployment, poverty, and out-migration.

In response to these conditions, governments, universities, communities, and businesses have redoubled their efforts to recapture that “spirit of invention” to help Cape Breton thrive once again.

With support from the Nova Scotia Government and Cape Breton University, the Cape Breton Partnership is excited to launch a major initiative to work towards this: CREATIVE ISLAND.

Cape BReton's Innovative future

CREATIVE ISLAND will help build a culture that values and supports creativity, innovation, and entre- preneurship, celebrates our rich creative heritage, and develops or supports programs, services and spaces to help increase the innovative capacity of Cape Bretoners and Cape Breton companies.

The inventor... looks upon the world and is not contented with things as they are. He wants to improve whatever he sees, he wants to benefit the world; he is haunted by an idea. The spirit of invention possesses him, seeking materialization.
